The exchange of information is becoming more and more dynamic in the digital age. This development is largely supported by available media such as internet and/or social media and is always less supported by the classical “hardcopy” alternatives such as brochures, books, et cetera. Because of the rapid development of the product cross laminated timber (CLT) and associated with its novelty relating to certain technical topics, it prevails a significant need for information within the different target groups (clients, architects, wood building masters, engineers, public officials et al) which has to be satisfied through technical support of the respective producer. It seems therefore appropriate to answer at least as many of arising questions by means of a central platform. In addition this information platform offers the possibility to communicate the current research results (after previous detailed professional discussion) on the one hand and assumes a regulatory function for further development of the product CLT on the other. Within the context of increasing internationalisation, this platform should be available at least in two languages (German / English).
About two years ago in the COMET K-project “focus_sts”, a Wiki for the topic cross laminated timber (CLT Wiki) has been created as part of a single firm task (partners: Holzcluster Steiermark, Institute for Timber Engineering and Wood Technology (HBHT) of Graz University of Technology, holz.bau forschungs gmbh (hbf)). It is planned to expand this internet based information platform in the medium term to a cross laminated timber “hot spot” by presenting the knowledge and know how elaborated during the last two decades summarized on different knowledge levels.
