04/10 2007: holz.bau forschungs gmbh successful within the COMET-programme

The in April 2007 submitted k-project 'holz.bau' of the company 'hbf gmbh' at the university of technology in Graz has been approved at the 28th of September 2007 after a evaluation-phase of several months. At the 27th of April 2007 ended the period of submission of the current call for the k-projects of the 'COMET'-programme. All in all, 16 requests have been submitted at the research-promotion-association, FFG. The requests have been appraised externally by some international technical consultants (coordination of the scientific funds 'FWF' and the 'Christian Doppler Scientific Association, CDG') and internally by the FFG. The decision for the sponsorship was made by a jury of 12 people on the 27th and 28th of September on basis of the external and internal appraisals. Only six of the 16 requests corresponded to the criteria, in order to be suggested for promotion. Originally, there were reserved appropriations for 10 k-projects. The request of the holz.bau research gmbh has been evaluated very well and was advised for a promotion.
The k-projekt 'holz.bau' comprises 18 research-projects, which run in two areas. The runtime takes five years and shall start in January 2008.
*...COMET - Competence Centers for Excellent TechnologiesThe competence centre programme COMET supports the building up of competence centres that are based on a top-level research programme jointly formulated by science and industry.
The programme consists of the three lines "K1-Centres”, K2-Centres” and "K-Projects”. The lines differ according to their international visibility, volume of project and duration.
The programme is the follow up of the existing Kplus, K_ind, and K_net programmes that were initiated in 1998. COMET wants to further increase the culture of cooperation between science and industry and their joint build-up of research competence and exploitation of results.

From July 2007 to December 2007 the competence centre holz.bau forschungs gmbh works in the so called "Intermediate Funding Period (IFP)". The currently existing research topics P01, P02, P03, P05 und P06 are assigned to research areas regarding their main research focus: AREA 1: Timber Engineering (TE), Design and Construction Sciences (DCS) and AREA 2: Wood Technology (WT), Material and Structure Sciences (MSS)
